Rue German Shepherd Dog Adult Female for sale in Richland, Washington

Rue's story
This sweet, shy, goofy girl is looking for a playful human to take her on adventures and to kick back and enjoy her excellent company while at home.
Rue has been loved and well-cared since she was adopted as a six-week-old puppy, but now she's losing her home due to a divorce.
Although she has never known anything but kindness and has lived her whole life as a full member of her family, Rue isn't the most confident girl out there. She loves older kids - when the teenage girl in her family has friends over, Rue is all over them and eager to make friends. But she can be skittish with adults she doesn't know. She is especially shy of men, but will warm up to women who are patient, calm and not pushy.
Rue has not had much exposure to young children. We noted, when evaluating her in a public area, that she was eager to go up to young children, but she would probably be a better fit for a family with kids aged at least 10 years.
At present Rue lives with an older male German Shepherd and two mellow cats. She is playful with her dog pal, and respectful when she meets large dogs. However she did attack a small dog once while out walking in the park. She pretty much ignores the cats in her home, but will chase them and may nip if they run.
Rue is a medium-energy dog who needs daily exercise but who knows how to relax when playtime is over. She will do best in a home where she has access to a yard.
She is exceptionally playful. She has a collection of stuffies that she loves to toss around, she enjoys a good game of tug with a rope toy, and she especially loves squeaky toys. She also has high ball drive, and will keep bringing it back and dropping it at your feet as long as you're willing to keep throwing it.
In the car she can be restless, but mainly because she's trying to see through all the windows at once. She knows to stay in the back, and she's alert and interested when she arrives someplace new.
Rue is not an especially snuggly dog with her present family. She likes to be around them, but is more interested in playing or just hanging out nearby. This may be because the other dog in the home is an attention hog, and she submits to him. But she's a talker; when she's with people she knows and feels safe, she always has lots to say!
She is used to being left loose in the house all day, with the cats and the other dog, while the humans are at work or school. She does not have any history of chewing or other destructive behavior.
If you're looking for protection this is probably not the dog for you. She'll bark when she hears the doorbell, but is more interested in jumping on visitors to greet them than in defending her home. When out on walks she may bark at people she sees in the distance, but when they come close she will initially hide behind her handler, and then may come forward to make friends.
Rue has never had any formal training, and it's a pity because she appears to be an intelligent, alert dog. She's still young enough to learn anything you might want to teach her, and we believe she will do best and be happiest with a human partner who is willing to make the commitment to take her to school.
Her recall is excellent, and she knows some obedience commands and tricks (sit, shake (with both paws), down). She wants to please, is treat motivated, and is even more motivated by her ball. On leash she tends to be somewhat all over the place and she pulls like a train unless on a prong collar
Rue has had regular vet care all her life and has no known health issues. Her vet records will be provided to her adopter. She has been spayed, and will be microchipped and up-to-date with vaccinations prior to adoption.
HART does not have a facility. All our animals are in foster homes, and are available to be introduced to approved adopters only.
